Short Stories

If you’re a lover of bite-sized fiction, these stories are where I stretch my genre muscles a bit more! Some are available for purchase, others can be read for free through Wattpad.

The God of Lead and Blood

From Flame Tree Publishing’s Myths, God, and Immortals anthology line, dive into Loki, an assortment of essays and stories devoted to everyone’s favorite (?) trickster god. My gunslinging, sun-baked contribution, The God of Lead and Blood, features Loki making his way in the Wild West – until shadows from his past catch up to him. Available to purchase from booksellers like Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and Flame Tree.

He Who Would Chase The Sun

This installment of Flame Tree Publishing’s gorgeous Gothic Fantasy series is devoted to the many imaginings of werewolves around the world. In He Who Would Chase The Sun, a young man, Mani, must accept the help of a mysterious wolf in order to protect his sister Sol from the blood-drinking creatures stalking her through the Norwegian countryside. Buy Were Wolf at Amazon, Barnes & Noble, or Flame Tree.

Xylophone Bones

This was both the first short story that I ever wrote and the first one I ever sold (there was quite a bit of time in between those two events, to be clear). This edition of Ghoulish Tales Magazine featured unpublished authors, and I’m honored that my little dark gothic fantasy piece made the cut. In a Bloodborne-flavored world, two siblings maneuver the unforgiving streets and, over the course of their lives, discover the true gruesome power of the music that the rich love so much. Available from Ghoulish Books.

A Scream to Split Stone (COMING SOON!)

Up next in Flame Tree Publishing’s Myths, Gods, and Immortals anthology series are stories reimagining the Valkyries! I’m excited to share the story of these fierce women weathering a scourge of the undead while continuing to fight age-old battles against the living. Releases May 12, 2026. Pre-order The Valkyries now from Amazon, Barnes & Noble, or Flame Tree.

Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Every Day

Available for free on Wattpad! This was written for an anthology my dear friends and I put together in 2021 around the theme “I pretended to be a librarian, and that’s when everything went wrong.” This later won an award from Wattpad’s ambassadors in 2022.

In this, a lonely teenage boy finds solace in the public library during summer break – solace that only lasts until a pretty girl walks in.

By the Hidden Pond

Available for free on Wattpad! I wrote this for a Gothic Romance contest run by Wattpad’s Historical Romance team. Mary visits the grave of the madman who ensnared her and must reckon with the way he continues to haunt her.

One Night in the Wood

Available for free on Wattpad! This was part of a delightful collaborative Valentine’s anthology featuring several webfiction Romance authors writing about loving monsters (like, realllllly loving monsters). Written with love for Frankenstein and Celtic folklore, my story features a woman who’s recently escaped her warlord husband seeking refuge in the woods haunted by the Dullahan. When one of the headless riders stops her in her tracks, she must use the only weapon at her disposal: charm.
